Not as bad as we were expecting and we just about got a night's racing in before the heavens opened. It was also an unusual night in that the fast boys and middle-markers all went back (although some did well vis à vis each other) whilst some of the early starters did quite well - indeed getting a few PB's and SB's.
Shirley did well to get a new SB of 28:26 and thanked her chaser (club legend Selwyn Bowen) for the motivation. Ffion has become the new Stephan by getting a new PB every time she rides a bike in anger and Nigel also helped himself to a new PB of 26:42 narrowly pipping his mate Gavin by 7 seconds. Friendly competition will bring you on boys!
Diane and Hollie are, perhaps, both chasing the shadows of their early season PB's but both did good rides and it would be great to see them eclipse those April rides before the Autumn.
As mentioned, our fast men and middle-markers went backwards due to the poorer conditions when compared to last week but Patrick Weir pulled out a good ride to get close to his SB and almost caught his minute man. John Deeley can also be pleased with getting very close to his SB and more so for getting into the Top 4. I agree with John's view that his form tonight in last week's conditions would have resulted in a '22' tonight Our top 3 were 'as dispatched' and all three must await a float night to get a SB/PB and Mark needs a quieter rear wheel too.
Anyway, fine words butter no parsnips. Despite the excellence of our PB's from the early starters, Alfie's 'man of the match' award goes to our mid-table Flying Scotsman - Patrick Weir. Well done Patrick, a great ride on the night - now go and get a PB!!
Thanks to Will for pushing off and whistling.
Get well soon Dai!!
