Yes, my (BBC's) weather report was pretty much spot-on in predicting it to be too windy a night for PB's so this was a night for training, or for a post-holiday shakedown ride or for testing out new tri-bars.
With no real slow-coaches present then Gavin Thomas got the event underway but the honour of being first rider back fell to 'noob' Ffion Davies who recorded a superb 27:03 on a tough night to become an early contender for 'man of the match'. Our other 'noob' girl Carole Welch rode well to record 27:32 and, when considering the poor night and carrying a passenger on her hip, Hollie should be pleased with her time and position - hey, it's the fastest Will has ever gone!
John Deeley rode an un-aero bike and wore an un-aero (but topical) TdF T-shirt whilst our other maillot jaune, Jeff Rees, was competitive but still didn't do the golden fleece justice. Bill Gannon went forward after suffering one of those nights last week whilst Les Thomas rode a good 'après les vacances' leg-loosener to get really close to our two fast visitors to finish sixth. Ross was his usual pre-race negative self but should feel positive about claiming third from sixth on the grid. However, Alfie's 'man of the match' award goes to Darren Edwards for a 23:12 road bike ride (on a tough night remember) to finish second. Well done Dazza!
As always, thanks to Dai and Will and also to Dan for pushing off (when he wasn't giving Ross kisses of encouragement).
Hot news! Shirl's got a tattoo and had it done in an unmentionable place....
