With 12 hours to go it's not the greatest weather forecast (heavy rain petering into light rain at race time) but we live in hope.

The essentials;

1. We meet up at the Neath Canal Car Park in Resolven for signing on from about 18.00hrs and closing at 18.40hrs for a prompt 19.00hrs race start.

2. You have to be member of the PTW or an existing second-claim member of the PTW. There is no 'single race' fee - you have to join the club as a first-claim member or be an existing second-claim member.

After five events our pool of riders is already 38 riders with only 28 riders allowed - so, regretfully, we have now closed the doors to second-claim membership.

To clarify, there will be a maximum of 28 riders taking part. Getting there early does not guarantee that you get a ride but getting there late guarantees you won't!

Most of you now have a race number that they will keep until the end of September... some even have two ;)

There will be no facility for choosing numbers. Race numbers have been washed, dried in the sun and randomly placed in a tight-fitting box. One of the two officials will then draw off the uppermost number from the box. This is only in the unlikely event of over-subscription where first-claim members get initial priority and we then get into a luck of the draw scenario.

Advance Notice - Next week is a prompt 18.45hrs start time.

The sunshine of mid-afternoon lulled us into a false sense of security as the heavens briefly opened after the event got underway with everyone getting drenched and later riders getting a soaking before they started - which is never very nice. Also not very nice is getting a puncture on the DC so commiserations to Neil Seaward.

Mike Davies got us underway but it was third man off Rob Lucas who came home first getting to within 11 seconds of a new SB - well done Rob. John Shehan was half-a-minute down on his SB which was broadly where most riders were on the night although a few bucked the trend.

Julian and Hollie have been locked in a season-long battle and it was Julian who nipped ahead this week by two precious seconds and was generally happy with his ride which saw him finish in the top half of the field (no, I can't believe it either). Also happy with his ride was Graham Rogerson but the midfield win went to John Deeley with a 23:10 - a superb SB and third on the night. Well done John!

We had a bit of a breakthrough ride this week by Mike Hall with a SB of 21:59 which took second place and has moved him out of that no man's land I'd placed him in last week. Taking the win this week was Rod Hicks who still has two chances of nailing that elusive '20' before we end the season. Alfie's 'man of the match' award goes to Mike Hall for dipping under 22 minutes and taking second place on the night.

As always, thanks to Will and Dan and how nice it was to see Dai Triggs at the event tonight... with a stopwatch in his hand and checking the times!

Is there more than one Mike Hall? I may need to create a 'Mike Hall 2':

Our database shows that up until 2015, 'Mike Hall' used to knock out a 26, with the odd 25 or 24. If it's the same Mike Hall, that's a great improvement.

Perhaps I'll create a 'Mike Hall 2' anyway. That way we can highlight the before and after of the insertion of the bionic implants.
